Symptoms to Watch Out For

Bayside Dentistry - FAQ - Teeth Extraction

We understand that tooth pain can be excruciating, often making it seem like extraction is the only solution. However, we aim to offer prompt relief and explore alternatives that might save your tooth.

Please inform us if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms:

  • Intense tooth pain
  • Pain that worsens with pressure or chewing
  • Jaw pain or stiffness
  • Swollen gums around the affected tooth or teeth
  • Indications of gum disease, such as discoloration, bleeding, or a bad odour

The Treatment Plan

Tooth extraction may be necessary for several reasons. These can involve removing stubborn baby teeth that don’t fall out naturally, or addressing teeth that cause pain or are infected.

A dental extraction can typically be completed in a single visit to the dentist’s office. Here’s our process for tooth extraction:

Looking for Solutions

While it may seem like extraction is the only option for relief, there are alternative methods to alleviate pain while preserving the tooth. Our goal is to keep you healthy, alleviate pain, and save your tooth whenever possible. Before proceeding with any extraction, we will thoroughly examine you and discuss all available treatment options.

The Removal Process

To ensure your comfort, we use a local anesthetic to numb the extraction site, with sedation options available if needed. Our method focuses on minimal invasiveness to make the procedure as gentle as possible, promoting a smooth and quick recovery.

Feeling Better

We will schedule a follow-up appointment to address any concerns you may have. Additionally, we will provide aftercare instructions to guide you through the healing process and inform you of what to do in case of complications. Understanding what to expect and how to care for your mouth will help ensure a smooth recovery.

Cost Of A Dental Extraction In Orillia

Several factors can influence the cost of a dental extraction. Without insurance, the typical cost ranges from $200 to $600 or more per tooth. We can provide an estimate in advance, allowing you to submit it to your insurance provider to determine your out-of-pocket expenses.

An accurate quote for a dental extraction cannot be provided over the phone, as your treatment plan needs to be customized to your specific needs, which can only be determined after a thorough oral examination. To give you a better understanding of potential costs and reasons, dental extractions generally fall into two broad categories:

Simple Tooth Extraction
Performed on visible teeth in the mouth, a simple extraction is typically conducted by a general dentist using local anesthesia. This straightforward procedure, involving accessible teeth without complications, usually results in a lower cost estimate.

Surgical Tooth Extraction
Involving the removal of a tooth that is not easily visible or accessible, a surgical extraction is a more complex procedure. This can occur when a tooth has not fully erupted or has broken off at the gum line. Due to the need for careful consideration, delicate care, and specialized expertise, surgical extractions generally incur higher costs.

Frequently Asked Questions

It’s a common belief that wisdom teeth removal is a necessary milestone. However, in reality, wisdom teeth typically only need to be removed if they become impacted or start causing issues with your jaw and other teeth.

Dental procedures, including extractions and wisdom teeth removal, are designed with your comfort in mind. Modern dentistry prioritizes minimizing discomfort using advanced tools and techniques. Our approach aims for precision, efficiency, and minimal trauma to facilitate rapid healing. After your procedure, we’ll provide comprehensive aftercare instructions to ensure your comfort and promote a speedy recovery.

You can typically eat about an hour after your procedure once you remove the gauze sponges from your mouth. It’s best to stick to soft foods for the first 24 hours and avoid consuming hot foods or using straws for several hours thereafter.

After your tooth extraction, we will provide personalized aftercare instructions tailored to your specific needs. Here are some general guidelines to promote a smooth recovery and reduce the risk of complications:

  • Refrain from spitting, mouth rinsing, blowing your nose, using a straw, or smoking during the first 24 hours.
  • Avoid touching the extraction site with your finger or tongue.
  • Steer clear of hot foods and drinks.
  • Do not take aspirin, as it can hinder blood clotting.
  • Avoid strenuous physical activities and exercise.

Following these recommendations will help ensure a comfortable healing process after your dental extraction.

After your dental extraction, it’s recommended to plan for about three to four days of rest or light activity, especially following wisdom teeth removal. Taking this time to rest helps minimize the risk of complications and supports your healing process. Typically, full recovery takes approximately 2 weeks, during which you should experience minimal discomfort.

Moved from Toronto about 3 years ago and had been travelling back and forth to the city for dental appointments. Last year I had a dental emergency, severe pain in my left side, couldn’t sleep for days and needed urgent dental attention. I called around to different local dentists and Bayside was able to get me in almost immediately. I ended up having an abscess tooth (ouch) which didn’t improve with antibiotics alone which meant I had to get a pulpectomy followed by a root canal once the infection went away. I’m not a huge fan of the dentist to begin with, but with the level of pain and discomfort I was feeling, I was thrilled to be in the dental chair and have someone help me. I’m very grateful for the friendly, caring and professional staff at Bayside and I’ve decided to start coming here instead of using my dentist in the city.
