A lifetime of smiles starts with a good foundation
Help your children build strong oral hygiene habits from the start and track their progress as they grow into their healthy, beautiful smiles. We know that family care can be both challenging and rewarding, and kids require extra attention. A healthy smile is a key part of childhood development—let’s set them on the right path with care that’s tailored to their unique needs.
Getting ready for your first appointment
Talking to your child about the upcoming dental visit can help them feel more prepared. The goal of their first appointment is to help them feel comfortable, have fun, and begin building a positive connection with the dentist. It’s completely normal for kids to feel a bit nervous if they’re unsure of what to expect. Here’s what they can expect during their first visit:
Talk and Listen
We’ll have a conversation with both you and your child, explaining the process and why we do each step, while introducing some of the tools we use. We speak in a way that’s easy for kids to understand, helping them feel at ease. See? We’re not as intimidating as they might think!
Gently Examine
We’ll take a gentle look at your child’s gums, teeth, tongue, and overall oral health. This allows us to spot any areas that might need extra attention, and we’ll provide advice on how to care for those areas at home. We’ll also note these areas for special focus in future appointments.
Educate
We may ask your child to show us how they brush their teeth, then offer helpful tips to improve their brushing routine at home. We’re happy to answer any questions you or your child may have about dental care.

to schedule an initial consultation & exam.
Your consultation will include an examination of everything from your teeth, gums and soft tissues to the shape and condition of your bite. Generally, we want to see how your whole mouth looks and functions. Before we plan your treatment we want to know everything about the health and aesthetic of your smile, and, most importantly, what you want to achieve so we can help you get there.
Frequently Asked Questions
Children usually begin teething around 6 months of age, making it a good time for their first dental visit. It is recommended to schedule an appointment by their first birthday or within 6 months after their first tooth comes in. If you have concerns or notice signs of discomfort, it’s important to book an appointment as soon as possible. There’s no such thing as too late for a child’s first dental check-up.
Even though baby teeth eventually fall out, they are vital for your child’s overall development. These early teeth do more than hold space for permanent ones; they play a significant role in shaping your child’s smile, facial structure, and confidence. When children experience dental pain, even mild, it can affect their eating habits and how they chew, influencing their food choices and portion sizes.
The duration of the appointment will depend on how your child reacts during the exam and the type of care they need. Typically, the first appointment lasts approximately one hour.
Following the initial visit, your child should visit the dentist every 6 months, just like you would. Routine check-ups and cleanings are usually recommended twice a year, unless we suggest an alternative schedule. If your child is experiencing any signs of pain or discomfort, such as rubbing their jaw or avoiding certain foods, an earlier appointment may be necessary.
Gum health plays a vital role in the overall function of your mouth. Neglecting any aspect of your oral health can impact the entire system. Issues like swollen, painful, or bleeding gums may be signs of a deeper concern that needs professional care.
