At Bayside Dentistry we’re proud to participate in the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), a national program designed to make dental care more affordable and accessible for eligible Canadian residents.
The CDCP helps remove financial barriers by covering a portion of the cost for many common dental treatments.
What Is the Canadian Dental Care Plan?
The CDCP is a federal program that helps qualifying Canadians access dental services. The program offers coverage for a wide range of preventive and restorative procedures, depending on your eligibility and coverage level.
Unlike private insurance, the CDCP is publicly funded and tailored to support those who do not have existing dental coverage. It ensures that Canadians with limited financial means can access necessary dental care to support their overall health and wellbeing.
Eligibility & How to Apply
To be eligible for the Canadian Dental Care Plan, patients must generally meet the following criteria:
- Canadian Resident: You must be a resident of Canada and file taxes as a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
- Income Tax Return: You have filed your income tax return for the previous year.
- No Existing Dental Coverage: You cannot have any private or employer-provided dental insurance coverage.
- Income Threshold: Your family’s adjusted net income must fall below the program’s annual income threshold.

How Coverage Works
Coverage levels are based on your adjusted family net income, with full coverage available to lower-income households and tiered, partial coverage for those earning up to the program’s maximum threshold. The plan offers coverage ranging from partial to full coverage of eligible CDCP fees, depending on your household income.
Please note that in some cases there may be out-of-pocket costs if your dentist’s standard fees exceed what is covered under the CDCP fee guide, or if additional treatments are required. Any such costs will be the responsibility of the patient.

Note:
CDCP coverage is set to expire on June 1, 2025, and all individuals currently enrolled in the program are required to renew their coverage.
The government will be sending out official letters to everyone with CDCP, which will include detailed instructions on how to complete the renewal process. Make sure to carefully follow the steps provided in the letter to ensure your coverage remains active beyond the renewal deadline.

Those who will be eligible for the program will need to fit the following criteria:
- No private dental insurance plan
- Annual household income under $90,000
- Canadian resident
- Have filed taxes for the previous year
The Government of Canada is doing a phased rollout of the plan, meaning that people are able to submit applications for enrolment in the program in different groups:
- Aged 87+: eligible to apply in December 2023
- Aged 77-86: eligible to apply in January 2024
- Aged 72-76: eligible to apply in February 2024
- Aged 70-71: eligible to apply in March 2024
- Aged 65-69: eligible to apply in May 2024
- Adults with a disability tax credit and children under 18 can apply in June 2024
- All other Canadian residents can apply for the program in 2025
Once accepted and enrolled, What do I do?
Plan members will receive a package which will include a benefits card. This package will also include the members start date with the program – this start date will vary based on enrolment/acceptance date and any treatment completed prior to the start date will not be reimbursed by the program. The earliest start date will be May 2024.
What will be covered?
Most dental services will be covered under the plan – basic services, endodontics, periodontics, restorative treatment, major treatments, and oral surgery. Please call us to find our more information.
